Childcare weekly cleaning checklist
August 27, 2022
Childcare Centres are some of the happiest places in Australia, but they are also a magnet for germs and viruses. With so many little ones traipsing through the building and then heading home to their families, it is important to keep everything clean to prevent illnesses from spreading.
Many of the sanitation measures can be undertaken by team members as the day progresses, but others require a little more time and effort and are best left to professional cleaners.
REGULAR CLEANING
Use hand sanitiser or disinfectant wipes after each nappy change, after collecting toys or equipment, or when the garbage is emptied
Empty bins, whether for nappies or regular rubbish, before they are full
All toilet seats and door handles should be regularly cleaned with bleach or disinfectant
Clean and disinfect all changing tables and potties. Make sure they are wiped down and free from bodily fluids before and after each use
Wipe downplay areas after each activity
The kitchen, including countertops and food preparation areas, should be disinfected before and after food is prepared
Dishes must be washed after each use. Don’t leave dirty dishes in the sink to pile up
Sinks must be clean and free of food
Tables, highchairs, and all other seating and surfaces need to be wiped down regularly
Pack up and store away any toys that are not being used. Toys that are dirty or have been chewed should be placed out of reach for cleaning
PROFESSIONAL CLEANING
A rigorous and well-organised cleaning schedule will go a long way to ensuring your childcare centre is a safe place to visit, but some jobs are best handled by professionals. This may because they require special equipment, lots of time, or need to be completed when the little ones have left for the day.
Professional cleaners can:
Clean air ducts to ensure they are free from mould and dust
Deep clean carpets or upholstery several times a year to prevent a buildup of bacteria. This will also prevent stains and minimise wear-and-tear
Thoroughly clean and polish hardwood floors
Deep clean bathrooms and kitchens. Extensively cleaning the grout will prevent the accumulation of germs, mildew, and bacteria
